Realtors
use new visa types to open doors for foreign buyers
WASHINGTON-May 15, 2009-Citizens of other countries represent
an important segment of the U.S. home buying market, and now
new special visa categories that allow foreign nationals to
gain U.S. residency can help facilitate that process. By using
these visa categories correctly, Realtors® will be able
to help many more buyers from overseas purchase property in
the U.S.
Toward this end, Realtors from across the country met Thursday
with experts in immigration issues and international economics
during the joint International and Resort and Second Home
Real Estate Forums at NAR's Realtors Midyear Legislative Meetings
& Trade Expo. Read

US
in talks to develop London embassy
By Daniel Thomas, January 21, 2009
The US government is in talks to sell its prominent Mayfair
embassy in London to Chelsfield Partners, a property investment
company backed by Qatar Investment Authority. The group
has emerged as a favourite to secure the sale of the imposing
concrete building – with its distinctive golden
eagle – in Grosvenor Square, which has more than
200 years of association with the US government. John
Adams lived there in 1785 before his time as US president.

Property Prices Fall 23 Per Cent in Fourth Quarter: HSBC-Khaleej
Times, January 22, 2009. DUBAI
- Dubai property prices fell 23 per cent during the last
quarter of 2008, with villas showing a more marked decline
than apartments, HSBC said in a report on Wednesday. The
emirate's once-booming real estate market has slowed as
a result of the global financial crisis, as prices fall,
developers scale back projects and jobs go. Averageprices
for villas in the emirate fell 30 per cent from September,
but were up 33 per cent year-on-year, while prices for
apartments declined 20 per cent from September last year,
but were up 16 per cent on the year. Read

Lessons
from America: Report from NYC- Globaledge-January
13, 2009 “I'm optimistic that we are no
longer optimistic” said Brian
Boero summing up the mood at Real
Estate Connect in New York City last week. “I'm feeling
really good about pessimism.”
With five million more US homes on the market today than
in 2005, the gallows humour was understandable.
The sense of hope was less so, given the backdrop of the
worst economic ituation since the 1930's. Read

Ikea
homes development falls flat By
Cordelia O'Neill, PA-January 22, 2009
The
UK's first development of Ikea houses has fallen flat
with buyers.
The
flat pack development in Gateshead was conceived two years
ago as the answer to the K's housing shortage. It was
hoped that a terrace of Ikea-designed BoKlok houses and
flats would provide affordable and ecological properties.
But the plans were hit by credit drying up and the collapse
of the housing market. Read
